This is the plant you will get.

I picked up this Anthurium Black Sweet in Java Indonesia last year as a seedling. The leaves are incredibly dark with a tough leathery feel to them. A great size plant which can be propagated if you wish.

The Anthurium Black Sweet is a striking cultivar known for its dark, almost black leaves and unique floral structure. The glossy, heart-shaped leaves provide a dramatic contrast against its inflorescences, which are typically a rich, deep red or blackish hue.

Characteristics

  • Foliage: The foliage is robust and leathery, with a captivating shine that enhances its overall allure. This makes the plant a popular choice for interior decoration and as a statement piece.

  • Flowers: The spathes, or modified leaves, stand out with their bold colouring, creating a stunning visual effect. They bloom intermittently, bringing life to its surroundings.

  • Growth Habit: Anthurium Black Sweet generally grows as a compact plant, making it suitable for various indoor settings. It thrives best in well-draining soil and requires humidity for optimal growth.

Care Requirements

  • Light: This plant prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, while too little light may hinder its growth.

  • Watering: The watering regime should allow the top inch of soil to dry out before the next watering. It is essential to avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot.

  • Humidity: Elevated humidity levels are beneficial for the Anthurium Black Sweet. Regular misting or placing the plant on a humidity tray can help achieve the right environment.

  • Fertilisation: During the growing season, a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser can be applied every four to six weeks to support healthy growth and flowering.

Common Issues

  • Pests: Be vigilant for common pests such as spider mites and aphids. Regularly checking the undersides of leaves can help in early detection.

  • Diseases: Overwatering can lead to infections like root rot. Ensure proper drainage and adjust watering habits accordingly to prevent this issue.

The Anthurium Black Sweet is not only a visual delight but also relatively easy to care for, making it an excellent choice for both novice and seasoned plant enthusiasts. With proper attention, it can thrive and bring a touch of exotic beauty to any space.
